How did Gandhi promote nonviolent ideas for Indian Independence?
I. Indian Independence
A. India had two main ethnic groups
1. Hindus
2. Muslims
B. As Indians started to disagree with England, two groups protested:
1. Indian National Congress
2. Muslim League
C. Mohandas Gandhi
1. became a leader for Indian independence from England
C. Peaceful protests were used
1. nationalist leaders protested for independence
2. used nonviolent methods
3. nonviolence = make sure people do not suffer
4. passive resistance = do not use force to get what you want (even if someone is using force against you)
5. civil disobedience = do not follow laws that you think are unfair; even if you have to get punished for not following the laws. This will show everyone how wrong the law is
6. boycott = stop buying things from people who do not treat you fairly
