I. Pass Laws
A. Apartheid = racial separateness between blacks and whites in South Africa
1. Africans = black South Africans
2. Afrikaners = white South Africans
B. Apartheid policies existed to separate education, public places, marriage, and areas in a the community.
C. Pass laws were created to enforce travel requirements
1. Black South Africans had to carry ID with them wherever they went
2. These papers had to be turned over when anyone asked
3. Failure to do so would risk punishment
